Valant is committed to continually building new features, creating a better user experience and enhancing the performance of the EHR. Our goal is to ensure that your practice can run efficiently and bring the best care available to your clients. The Release Notes will show you what is new in Valant and improvements we have made.

December 14, 2022 Release

Appointments 

  • Enhancements were made to the user interface of the Record Appointments page to improve scrolling.

Documents 

  • An error that caused the editor role to be missing from unsigned documents was resolved. 

Group Therapy 

  • An error that caused Incident to Supervisor setting to apply to Group Appointments was fixed.
  • The documentation status for group appointments will now be displayed in the Scheduler | Record Appointments page.

Mobile Notes Measures 

  • An error that caused some measures not to appear in some Mobile Note templates was resolved.

MYIO 

  • MYIO users now have the ability to change the answers to their security questions via their My Account section.

Patient Communications / Prospective Patient Management 

  • New Broadcast Message added for Prospective Patients communication.
  • New Prospective Patient Message added to Patient Communications Reminders.

Patients 

  • An error that caused Allergies to show as modified in reports when DrFirst was accessed has been resolved.
  • An enhancement to increase character limit in the Last Name field to support longer last names was implemented.

Reports 

  • An error that caused the export center from timing out was fixed. 

Secure Messaging 

  • The Trash folder will automatically remove messages that have been in the trash for 180 days.
  • Users can now lock a Secure Message thread, to prevent a patient user from being able to reply to a message.
  • A new setting has been added to Secure Messaging to set the default type of message to be used on the compose form. 
  • A customizable user signature has been added to Secure Messaging.
  • The ability to save attachments to the patient chart without saving the message thread has been added. 
  • Enhancements have been made to the Secure Messaging text editor that include ability to change the font color, font highlight color, and add hyperlinks.
  • The ability to preview PDFs in message threads in the browser without downloading the PDF has been added to Secure Messaging.

December 1, 2022 Release

Appointments

  • The documentation status for patient appointments will now be displayed in the Scheduler | Record Appointments page.
  • An error that happens when changing incident-to supervisor resets appointment facility to the patient's assigned facility was resolved.

Billing 

  • An error that caused the Incident to Supervisor status to reset for charge creation on the Create Charges page was resolved.
  • An error that caused some add-on codes to note reset the crossover billing status was resolved.
  • An error that caused filtering on the Patient Statements page using the "All Except" filter for patient type was fixed.
  • An error that prevented some practices from successfully running large batches of patient statements was resolved.

Mobile Notes 

  • Add-on code units and modifiers can be edited in the Mobile Note Header tab.
  • An additional option was added to pull data from a specific provider, even if that provider's data are not the most recent. See New Note From Last Across Providers for more details.
  • Now staff who add a note on behalf of a provider can add a measure on the fly. See Add Measures on the Fly for more details.
  • An issue that caused a few providers to receive an error when starting a Mobile Note was corrected.

MYIO 

  • A successful password reset now unlocks the patient's portal account. 
  • An error that showed clients in the MYIO portal to be given the prompt for a credit card when Online Bill Pay was turned off has been resolved.

Secure Messaging 

  • Secure Messaging now has an option to empty the Trash folder. 
  • A new setting for Secure Messaging was added that allows users to configure if they would like to get an email notification of a Secure Message. 
  • A first iteration of search functionality was added to allow users of Secure Messaging to more easily find messages.

Treatment Plan 

  • There is a new setting in Treatment Plan Builder which allows the patient’s preferred name (if present) to appear in the treatment plan. See Treatment Plan Builder Settings  article for more details.

Appointment Request Queue 

  • An issue with some users being able to access the Appointment Request Queue was resolved.

Billing 

  • An issue was resolved which could prevent the patient's full name from appearing while applying a patient payment when the patient had a middle initial. 
  • An issue that showed the Batch Eligibility option on the navigation menu for users who did not have permission was resolved. 
  • An error in date filter of the Receipt Book was resolved. 
  • A permissions error related to posting insurance payments was resolved. 
  • An error created when users try to create add-on charges without marking "Insurance Procedure" was resolved.

Group Appointments 

  • An issue that caused the Incident-to supervisor not populating on group appointment details was resolved.

Mobile Notes 

  • An issue that prevented the removal of modifiers from mobile notes was resolved.

  • A display issue with the GAF measure displaying was resolved.

  • An issue that prevented the document drop-down from appearing not in alphabetical order was resolved.  
  • An issue that prevented some users from uploading documents into undocumented sessions was resolved. 
  • An error that caused appointment categories to not sort alphabetically was fixed.

  • An issue that caused billing errors when Enhanced Billing Validation and the Bill Insurance 2 as 1 module were enabled has been resolved.

  • The annual ICD-10 update was completed, and all new diagnosis codes from the American Medical Association are now available for selection. 
  • An issue that prevented the Patient Chart History from showing on certain browsers was resolved.

Billing 

There is a new column in the transaction details in Billing | View/Edit Charges called "Ins Check #". All insurance Check/EFT#s from ERA files and Billing | Apply Insurance Payment will populate this field. The existing "Note" column will continue to appear on patient statements and reports. When an ERA is posted with a $0 note the "Note" field will continue to display the explanation, and the new "Ins Check #" column will display the Check/EFT# for reference. Previous ERA Check/EFT #s will appear in the new field but previously applied insurance payments from Billing | Apply Insurance Payment will not. See View Edit Charges article for more information.

Billing 

  • An error that kept the charge balance in the patient responsibility column after insurance was rebilled was fixed. Previous transactions will not be affected by the fix. Going forward, if an insurance response is posted to a charge and the remaining balance becomes patient responsibility, and then the user rebills the charge to insurance, the balance will remain insurance responsibility until the insurance response is posted. 

Group Therapy 

  • An error was fixed that caused certain Group appointments to incorrectly appear in "Upcoming Appointments" for past enrollees.

Scheduling 

  • A display error that caused edited recurring appointment series to show future occurrences as exceptions was resolved.

User Accounts 

  • The "Unlocked Locked User Accounts" page is now accessible by users with the “Practice Permission”. Previously "Admin Access" was needed to access this page. See Unlock Locked User Accounts article for more details.

  • Now practices that use "NNFL Across Providers" can change the configuration so the default behavior is to pull the logged in provider's most recent data; the user is alerted if there is more recent data from another provider, and they can easily switch.   
  • An issue that prevented some users from being able to preview prior documents and measures in mobile notes was fixed. 

Group Therapy 

  • Now the Paywall functionality in the Patient Portal applies to Group appointments. 
  • Practices with the Receipt Book enabled can now accept payments from the scheduler for Group Appointment attendees.

  • Now users with Admin Access permission can create custom provider tabs and fields that appear in Persons & Institutions | Providers.

Patient Portal 

  • Practices using the Appointment Requests feature have a new optional setting to create "Placeholder" appointments for new pending appointment requests in order to tentatively block off the requested time on the calendar.

Billing

  • In order to enhance the user experience in the Pending Transaction Queue we have implemented a new pop-up menu that will show the transactions as they are processing. This will prevent the possibility of processing subsequent attempts for the same charge. 

Documentation 

  • An error that prevented previewing Mobile Notes from within the Mobile Notes Application has been resolved.

Group Therapy 

  • An issue was resolved which caused unsigned Group notes to become un-editable if the Group Appointment was deleted. 

Persons & Institutions 

  • Now users with Admin Access permission can create custom provider tabs and fields that appear in Persons & Institutions | Providers

Reporting 

  • An error that caused the Faxes Status report to show some results as "unknown" has been corrected to reflect the correct status.

Time Zone 

  • Provider signatures on the treatment plan will now include a time zone label next to the time in the signature. 
  • The System | Unlock Locked User Accounts page will show both the time and date the user was locked out of Valant.

Billing 

  • An error that caused the Copay Exceptions Schedule to not update the Default Copay Value was fixed.   
  • An issue that caused a small segment of users to receive an error when creating charges was fixed.

Documentation 

  • A new checkbox was created in Mobile Notes that allows staff users to add a macro in the provider’s macro list. See new feature here.   
  • An issue that caused documents uploaded through Document Sessions to not register the correct documentation status in the PTQ was fixed.
  • An issue that caused some error messages when viewing medications in Mobile Notes was resolved.  
  • Some Web Editor documents that were not visible were retrieved successfully. 

Patient Chart 

  • The Patient Tasks page of the Patient Chart was recoded for enhanced performance and user experience. 

Patient Portal 

  • To improve the patient signing experience in patient portal on a mobile device, the signing popup now autoscales to better fit smaller screen sizes when the user is on a mobile device. 

Persons and Institutions 

  • An error that caused non-admin users to inadvertently change the New Note from Last Preference was fixed.  
  • A permission issue that caused the Admin Access permission to be required to update Provider Availability was fixed.    

Reports 

  • An issue was resolved that caused incomplete data to appear on the Payments, Refunds and Adjustments report. 
  • An issue that caused an error in the data export center was resolved. 

Telehealth 

  • Telehealth participants can now choose between Gallery View and Speaker View during telehealth sessions.  Learn more about viewing options here
  • Providers have the ability to “Spotlight” or select speakers who will appear as with the largest screen for participants.  Learn more about this feature here
  • An issue was resolved that intermittently prevented content drawn on the "Virtual Whiteboard" from being visible to all participants.

Billing 

  • Changed the label in the ERA legend from 'Re-coded by payer' to 'CPT is different' so that it will appear with the "light blue" color. 
  • An issue was resolved so that when you edit the prepayment type on the Prepayment History page, the payment type is reflected correctly on the Daysheet under the Bank Deposit section. 
  • An issue was resolved so that trailing spaces are removed automatically if entered in Billing | View/Edit Charges. 

Documentation 

  • An issue affecting the readability of a few documents created from the patient chart was resolved.
  • An issue which prevented viewing documents in a patient chart was resolved. 

Patient Chart 

  • An issue which prevented some expected medications from showing in the Patient Chart was resolved. 

Patient Portal 

  • An issue was resolved so that when Patient Portal setup via express validation is initiated after email validation, the express validation can be completed. 

Persons and Institutions 

  • An intermittent issue which prevented saving a main phone number in the Firefox browser was resolved. 
  • An intermittent issue which caused you to be unable to send an eFax when using the Firefox browser was resolved. 

Reports 

  • An issue was resolved that caused some documented sessions to appear on the Undocumented Appointments report. 

Scheduler 

  • An issue which prevented recording patient appointments was resolved. 

Telehealth 

  • You now have the option to hide your own camera feed tile from yourself during a telehealth meeting.  Check out Valant Telehealth for more information.

Billing

  • Daysheets will now be created as part of the Report Queue. This will enhance  to improve performance. When daysheets are created for larger time periods this will prevent errors or timeouts. 

  • An issue one client had with Fee Schedule Billing Types was corrected.

Documentation

  • A bug effecting a small number of users that prevented them from updating their supervisor on some unsigned documents.

  • An error that prevented some users from previewing unisgned documents was fixed.

Mobile Notes

  • An issue that prevented one client from accessing the full measure library was fixed.

  • An issue that caused certain sections of Mobile Notes to have checkboxes appear in-line has been fixed.

Patient Portal

  • The option to allow a Self-Check-in Prerequisite Paywall to the patient portal has been added. When enabled this would require a patient make a payment before joining a Telehealth session. Learn More here: Self-Check-In Prerequisite - Paywall

Persons and Institutions

  • A new grid was added to the "Write Off Outstanding Balances" option on the Balances tab of P&I Patients to allow for more granular adjustments. Learn more here: Write Off Outstanding Balances

  • A  warning of potential duplicate patient notification when adding new patients was added to the EHR.

  •  An issue that prevented "Education Level" from being saved in patient demographics has been fixed.

Reports

  • A bug that effected timezone offset on reports was fixed.

Telehealth

  • Staff users now have the ability to "Manage Guest Access" for telehealth.

Telehealth

  • Now you can invite up to 15 participants to join a telehealth session through a Guest Access link.

  • A new Virtual Whiteboard feature lets participants collaboratively write and draw on a shared canvas.

  • You can now share your screen, tab, or window and enable patients and guests to share their screen.

  • You can use a new feature called Telehealth Chat to exchange messages with participants while in a telehealth session.

  • Providers can now enable or disable patient and guest permissions for actions like chatting, screen sharing, and unmuting themselves.

  • A new Device Management tool makes it easy to select and test a camera, microphone, and speakers to use in a session.

  • An error caused by opening the patient chart due to a specific e-lab measurement was fixed.

  • A server error that effected the ability to open the patient chart was resolved.

  • In Patient Demographics and and the Patient Chart new fields for Gender Identity have been added. Learn more here.

  • An issue that caused some the Combined Aging report to calculate incorrectly was fixed.

Scheduler

  • An intermittent issue that caused an error when trying to open appointments on the scheduler was fixed.

  • A new feature called Availability Search that allows users to available timeslots on the Calendar. Learn more here.

  •  A new designation for Appointment Categories that allows users to assign a Free or Busy designation to an appointment. Learn more here.

Time Zone

  • Time zone infrastructure work was completed to allow for better handling of user time zones.

November 16, 2021 Release 

Persons and Institutions 

  • Now you can add new Guarantors and Subscribers while entering patient demographics, without having to navigate away from the page. Learn more here.

  • On the Dashboard under Action Items and Documentation Status the "Minimum Unrecorded Appointments" label has been updated to say "Unrecorded Appointments".

  • An issue that allowed users without the "Patient Clinical Charts" permission to generate and view statements has been fixed.

Patient Portal

  • An error caused by patients entering specific demographic information through the patient portal has been fixed.

Scheduler

  • Now when dragging and dropping appointments from one providers calendar to another, the Incident-to-Supervisor field will also update. 

Session Documentation

  • An issue that caused some document templates not to update measurements in the chart has been fixed.

Treatment Plan Tool

  • The Treatment Plan Tool will now show a  grid with details from previous reviews showing the action taken, date of the review, text details entered, and review timeframe.

General 

  • PDFs opened from Valant will open in a new browser tab instead of being downloaded to the user's machine. Learn more here

  • The Appointment Categories were moved from a separate page to a tab on the Practice page to consolidate practice level configurations. Learn more here

  • To accommodate longer names the Provider Display Name field was updated from a 40 character limit to an 80 character limit.

  • A new permission called "Practice" was added to control which users can access practice wide settings on the Persons and Institutions | Practice page.

Session Documentation

  • When documenting in Mobile Notes users can now add measures to their notes after the documentation has been started. Learn more here

  • An issue that did not attach completed documentation to a charge was fixed.

  • An issue where documents uploaded on the Document Sections pager were not updating the Documentation Status Icon properly was fixed.

Scheduler

  • An issue that caused appointments in some circumstances to be missing from the calendar until it was refreshed was fixed.

  • An issue that in certain cases allowed patients to request appointments through the patient portal when a provider had a multi-day appointment on their calendar was fixed.

Billing

  • An error that appeared in the Charges Report under a specific circumstance when dividing by zero was fixed.

  • An issue that prevented users from selecting the Pay Copay button on the Apply Patient Payment page was fixed.

  • An issue blocking the printing of previously generated prepayment receipts was fixed.

  • An issue with a credit card processing error message in a specific circumstance was fixed.

  • An error that caused a credit card credit to be declined, but still posted to View/Edit Charges was fixed.

General

  • A display issue causing the “Action” column to sometimes appear missing has a new width requirements to prevent the column from being hidden.

  • An issue affecting the date a new diagnosis was added to the patient chart was corrected. 

  • An issue that caused medications added into Valant to display as the date prior to being written was fixed.

  • The ability to use the tab key on the Apply Patient Payment, Apply Insurance Payment (Charge Back and Payment page), and Transfer Patient Payment (Transfer To page) was added.

  • An issue handling overpayment messaging when an error occurring when refunding a credit card was fixed.

  • An issue that caused credit card receipts not to appear in the patient chart in specific cases was fixed.

  • Field validation was added to some credit card processing fields to restrict unsupported characters from credit card details fields. .

Reports

  • The Patient Aging Report formatting was updated to allow for wider columns.

Persons and Institutions

  • The custom text fields on Persons and Institutions | Patients | Custom can now be resized by dragging the corner of the field.

System

  • The Appointment Categories page was updated to allow in-line editing, and gives the users the ability to see the color blocks on the menu.

Tools

  • The Reminders page was updated with more robust filtering and users can create or edit reminders in a pop-up menu. Learn More here: Reminders

General

  • An issue was resolved which prevented the Credit Card Transaction Details section from appearing on system-generated receipts in some cases where applicable.

  • An issue which could cause a miscount of "Completed reports in queue" was fixed.

Scheduler

  • Patient address will now wrap to up to three lines in the Patient tab of the New Appointment and Edit Appointment pop-ups.

  • An issue was resolved which was affecting the appointment's date when detaching the second-to-last appointment in a recurring series.

Patient Chart

  • An issue was resolved so that medications discontinued by the patient may now be edited for practices without ePrescribing.

Session Documentation

  • When starting to document a session, if documentation already exists for that same session, an error message will appear to explain why the system is not allowing new documentation to be created.

  • An issue which rendered the End Date uneditable for some One-Time Measures in the Patient Chart has been fixed.

Session Documentation

  • New outcome measure available for Mobile Notes: CIWA-AR (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment of Alcohol Scale, Revised). The CIWA-Ar is a 10-item, provider-administered measure designed to monitor alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Learn more here: CIWA-AR.

  • Layout and styling improvements allow Mobile Notes pages to now fit better on smaller screens. Additionally, to make it easier to discern which tab has focus, the selected tab is now a more distinct color.

  • An issue was resolved which prevented users from opening a New Note from Last Word Template when the Word template contained duplicate bookmark names. In the case of duplicate bookmark names, now a warning will appear which references the name of the duplicated bookmarks.

  • In the ERA page, the Tx. Ins. Name column will remain visible, regardless of the browser window size.
  • An issue which prevented the application of patient payment toward transactions with either a $0 or credit balance was fixed.
  • An issue was resolved so that patient payments entered without any check/reference number will show a blank Notes field in View/Edit Charges instead of the word "null".

Reference Data

  • In the "MASTER Progress Note - All Tabs and Measures" and "MASTER Intake Note - All Tabs and Measures" templates on the Manage Mobile Notes Templates page, a new tab called "E&M Time" is now available. When the tab is used for documenting a patient appointment, providers will see a "Time Spent on Activities" worksheet which allows for the tracking of non-face-to-face time spent on the appointment’s date of service.
