Units

Overview

Units provide a way of applying a multiple to a primary code. When creating an appointment on the calendar the amount of units will default to 1. They should be listed as 1 service unit for billing purposes unless indicated in CPT guidelines for that service or time based codes. If you increase the amount of units the charge associated with the primary code will be multiplied. Units can be edited on the calendar or from View/Edit Charges. Units are included on claims when pilled to insurance in box 24G.

  • To set the amount of units from the scheduler use the arrows or type in a value in the units field and click Save

  • To edit the Units from View/Edit Charges click on a date of service | the transaction from the billing details | View/Edit Detail | edit the value of units | Ok

Use Case

If an appointment has a primary code that is a short 15 minute testing code with a charge of 20$ and you wanted to bill 4 units of that testing code to account for the amount of time or number of tests performed. You could bill 4 units of that code to equal an hour appointment and a charge of 80$.
