ASAM - American Society of Addiction Medicine Criteria

Description

ASAM's treatment criteria provide separate placement criteria for adolescents and adults to create comprehensive and individualized treatment plans. Adolescent and adult treatment plans are developed through a multidimensional patient assessment over five broad levels of treatment that are based on the degree of direct medical management provided, the structure, safety and security provided and the intensity of treatment services provided.

Criteria

The ASAM is made up of six different dimensions:

  • Acute Intoxication and/or Withdrawal Potential
  • Biomedical Conditions and Complications
  • Emotional, Behavioral, or Cognitive Conditions and Complications
  • Readiness to Change
  • Relapse, Continued Use, or Continued Problem Potential
  • Recovery/Living Environment

Interpretation

This version of the ASAM is a place for clinicians to record their conclusions as to the ASAM Risk and Level of Care values. There is no scoring and it doesn't include assessment questions.

Note: This assessment is available to Valant customers within the EHR
